Working AI Agents Are Here And They're Awesome
AI Drug Discovery Breakthrough, 5 AI Workflows You Can Copy, and Paper Proves LLMs Generate Novel Research ideas
Hi everyone,
I will be gone for two weeks, so unfortunately, there will be no newsletter until I return!
I’ll be at Inbound in Boston next week to perform two live shows, one on the main stage(the same stage that Ryan Reynolds will be on!). After that, I’ll be on my honeymoon.
I’ll be back soon and better than ever!
1) Things Are Getting Better
Two major announcements this last week involved applying AI to drug discovery and research.
We’re excited to introduce @chaidiscovery and release Chai-1, a foundation model for molecular structure prediction that performs at the state-of-the-art across a variety of drug discovery tasks
We're releasing inference code, weights & a web interface: chaidiscovery.com/blog/introduct…

We’re presenting AlphaProteo: an AI system for designing novel proteins that bind more successfully to target molecules. 🧬
It could help scientists better understand how biological systems function, save time in research, advance drug design and more. 🧵 dpmd.ai/3XuMqbX

AI isn't just changing our world – it's about to revolutionize our lifespans. As I've been saying, we're on the cusp of unprecedented longevity breakthroughs. My advice? Start preparing your body now. Hit the gym, maintain a healthy weight, and prioritize your well-being so you can live long enough to see it happen.
2) Working AI Agents Are Here And They're Awesome
This week, Replit, an “AI-powered software development & deployment platform,” launched a new AI coder, and it’s incredible. It seems AI agents are finally here and working this time. (Sorry, BabyAGI; I still love you.)
🤯So real agents came faster than I thought
Without any Python ability. I signed up for Replit and used their new AI coder. I was able to build a working app that identifies sentiment at the paragraph level in 23 minutes. I only interacted 8 times. It did the design & debugging

In this eye-opening example, Ethan Mollick, a Wharton professor known for his AI insights, demonstrates how he created an entire app without writing a single line of code. The AI set up the production environment, wrote the code, and even iterated on functionality and design – all through natural language commands. Truly mind-blowing.
The implications for businesses are massive:
Accelerated Development: Companies can move faster than ever before.
Democratized Coding: Non-technical team members can now contribute to software projects.
Potential Disruption: Some roles and services may become redundant.
after using replit's coding agent
i think...its over for a lot of traditional saas
wanted slack notifications when customers subscribed/cancelled
Zapier was 30/mo JUST to add a price filter
instead replit's agent built & deployed one in < 5 mins, with tests. 1/10 of the cost

Case in point: Sully Omarr's tweet shows how he used Replit to replace a $30/month Zapier integration. He now owns the code outright, cutting costs and increasing flexibility.
This is just the beginning. As AI capabilities grow, we're approaching a reality where AI can replicate entire products and features. For many SaaS companies, especially those offering simpler solutions, this could spell trouble.
The takeaway? Every business needs to seriously consider how to leverage this technology to stay competitive. The AI revolution isn't coming – it's already here.
3) 5+ AI Workflows You Can Copy
In this week’s episode of The Next Wave, Matt Wolfe and I shared 5 AI workflows you can use in your business. People seem to be loving this format, so we will start doing more podcast episodes like this. Check it out!
It would also help if you subscribe to The Next Wave on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. That’d make HubSpot and me very happy.
4) Things I’m Learning From
PAPER: Can LLMs Generate Novel Research Ideas? A Large-Scale Human Study with 100+ NLP Researchers - A new research paper proves that LLMs are creating novel research ideas. They’re often able to make more unique research ideas than actual researchers.
VIDEO: AI News: Will AI Art Be Outlawed? - Great video from my friend Matt talking about the current state of AI Art legality.
LLM RELEASE: NEW OPEN-SOURCE LLM. Mistral AI may have just released a new multi-modal LLM. They tweeted a link on X to the latest release but haven’t explained what it is yet. It might be a new multi-modal version of their open-source LLM.
That’s all for today. Please consider sharing the newsletter with your friends if you think they’d enjoy it. 🙏
Please give me feedback on Twitter. I am still figuring out the best format for this newsletter. Which part did you like? Dislike? Do you have other suggestions? Please let me know—just tweet @NathanLands.
