Opus 5.5 is becoming the default Claude for a lot of builders → Anthropic’s new top model is roughly 40% cheaper to run than Opus 5 while staying close to it on most tasks. Meta Connect was mostly about putting Muse everywhere → Meta is adding voice and live video to Muse and bringing it to its glasses, where you can talk to it hands-free throughout the day. The hardware lineup now includes camera-free audio glasses, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, $1,299 VR glasses coming in spring 2027, and Muse Charm, a small keychain device planned for December. GPT-6 Sol and Luna make the new generation much cheaper to use at scale → OpenAI launched two smaller GPT-6 models that bring much of Astra’s capability into faster, cheaper tiers. Claude may have found a new CRISPR-like system hiding in virus DNA → Claude searched bacteriophage genomes and noticed a repeating DNA sequence sitting next to an enzyme in a pattern that looked like it might be a previously undescribed biological system. Anthropic’s biology team then ran the experiments Claude suggested. They still do not know exactly what the system does, but related systems have turned into powerful tools for cutting, copying, and editing DNA. Qwen’s tiny open image model sits next to Nano Banana 2 → Qwen-Image-2.1 is a 7B open-weight model that both generates and edits pictures, including transparent backgrounds and up to 10 reference images. Qwen’s own tests put it just ahead of Google’s Nano Banana 2, which is very impressive. Read more here →

ChatGPT Voice can now actually do things while you talk → Voice can use plugins such as email, calendar, and Slack, and can run on GPT-6 Astra, Sol, or Luna. Inside ChatGPT Work, you can speak a document, deck, website, or spreadsheet into existence, or have it use the browser for you. This pushes Voice much closer to being a hands-free computer interface rather than just a chatbot you happen to talk to. Read more here →

DHH’s Rails benchmark still has OpenAI in front → The latest results from his real-world Rails agent tests show OpenAI holding the lead even after the jump from Opus 5.5. The interesting result is Luna Max, which completed 18% of the hardest tickets for about $11, putting it surprisingly close to GPT-6 Sol for much less money. Grok 4.7 is a straight upgrade without a price increase → xAI says the new model is better than 4.6 at sticking with difficult tasks and checking its own work, while keeping roughly the same speed and price.
