Issue #156: OpenAI launches Atlas, the best AI browser yet
PLUS: Anthropic secures 1M Google TPUs in multi-billion deal, General Intuition raises $134M to train AI on 2B game clips, and Google ships "vibe coding" in AI Studio
Good morning, welcome to this week’s Lore Brief, your 3-minute brief of the most important moves in AI and tech.
This issue is brought to you by Factory, the fastest way to ship software with autonomous engineering agents.
P.S. Subscribing to The Next Wave helps us push further and land the guests you want to hear from.

ChatGPT launches an AI-powered browser “Atlas” → OpenAI's new macOS app embeds ChatGPT into your browsing with sidebar chats for instant summaries, agent mode previews for task automation like trip planning, and cursor tools for quick rewrites - all with full privacy controls. See more here →
Claude Desktop launches for Mac and Windows → Anthropic's Claude Desktop app is now generally available, always in your dock and tied to your local files. Capture screenshots, click windows for instant context sharing, and hit Caps Lock for voice chats - boosting daily usage for quick tasks. Read more here →
Google AI Studio rolls out vibe coding → Google's new AI-first vibe coding experience in AI Studio lets you go from prompt to production app with Gemini. Features include speech-to-text for "yap to app," integrations for databases and auth coming soon, and free access to build AI tools like image generators or chat agents. Read more here →

Claude for Desktop Top feature:
Claude for Desktop has so far boosted my usage more than the Atlas browser has for ChatGPT
Features I love:
- Keyboard shortcut to launch Claude from anywhere
- Auto-ingestion of what's on your screen
- Caps lock to enable voice mode (talk to Claude)— Olivia Moore (@omooretweets)

Factory now supports mixed-model runs:
The Factory CLI now supports mixed-model runs.
You can build a specification with a SOTA model, and execute with a more cost-efficient model.
Developers deserve choice. You can now get the best out of all models, from every provider. For example, Sonnet 4.5 for specification

Google’s AI Studio’s new AI-powered suggestion cards are a really interesting UX I’ve never seen before:
One of my favorite parts of the new AI Studio vibe coding experience is actually these AI powered suggestions of what to build next 💡!
While I wait for the app to finish generating, I am already brainstorming and queueing up what to do next.

General Intuition raises ~US$134 m seed round → The gaming-video-clip platform Medal spun out General Intuition, which attracted Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst and Raine among backers. The target: build foundational models and agents trained on “2 billion+ video-game clips” to crack spatial-temporal reasoning, object interaction and 3D-environment intelligence. Read more here →
EU's “AI Factories” called out as tiny and wasteful → Pieter Levels slams the EU's six new AI Factories as laughably small - totaling maybe 1,500 H100 equivalents vs. xAI's 200,000 alone. He argues for deregulation and low taxes over scattered data centers that mostly burn taxpayer cash. Read more here →
Anthropic scales up with Google Cloud TPUs → Anthropic inks multi-billion deal for up to 1M Google TPUs, adding a gigawatt of capacity by 2026 alongside AWS and NVIDIA. This fuels Claude's growth for 300K+ customers, from startups to Fortune 500s. Read more here →
Sora 2 roadmap: Cameos, editing, and Android → OpenAI's Sora app gets character cameos for your pet or toy in days, plus trending cameo discovery, clip stitching, friend channels, snappier feeds, and Android launch soon. Looser moderation and better perf ahead. Read more here →
Chamath charts AI shifts and coding woes → OpenAI's market share dips to incumbents like Google as distribution wins; coding agents shrink 15% as "vibe coding" flops on real complexity, churning enterprise users after demos. Read more here →
Sora 2 storyboard shines in single-prompt test → Filmmaker Dave Clark crafts a full cinematic short from one text prompt using Sora 2's storyboard - 100% AI-generated, edited for polish. Highlights consistency and speed for pros. See more here →
