GPT Next is Coming and It's 100X Bigger Than GPT-4

AI Business Ideas You Can Steal, Tesla's Smart Summon Gets Wide Release, AI Simulations in Minecraft

n GHi everyone

This is Lore, the techno-optimist newsletter.

Every week, I share 5 interesting things to help you thrive in the age of AI.

Thank you for being a part of 20k+ techno-optimists and growing. Feel free to forward this to your friends if you feel the urge. 🙏

1) Things Are Getting Better

Tesla's Smart Summon will finally be widely released next week. This feature allows Tesla to come and pick you up wherever you are.

Due to the advancements in LLMs, most people have forgotten that before OpenAI, Tesla was one of the most innovative companies in AI with self-driving.

Now that Elon is doubling down on AI, I expect we will see more amazing real-world AI in our everyday lives. LFG!

2) GPT Next is Coming and It's 100X Better Than GPT-4

As I’ve been saying for a while, despite all the talk about OpenAI falling behind, I don’t believe it. I’ve heard from friends in Silicon Valley that people have seen “GPT-5,” and it’s incredible.

And now a new report from right here in Japan seems to back that up. Today, a story came out: the CEO of OpenAI Japan gave a talk and explained that the new model will be called GPT Next. Here are some interesting quotes(using Google Translate):

“GPT NEXT, which will be released this year, is expected to be trained using a miniature version of Strawberry with roughly the same computational resources as GPT-4, with an effective computational load 100 times greater. "The AI model called 'GPT Next' that will be released in the future will evolve nearly 100 times based on past performance. Unlike traditional software, AI technology grows exponentially."

But that's not all – OpenAI seems to be putting its money where its mouth is. The company is reportedly in talks to raise a massive round of funding that could value it at over $100 billion. With potential backing from tech giants like Microsoft and Apple, it's clear that something big is on the horizon.

As I’ve repeatedly said in this newsletter and The Next Wave podcast, most people aren’t prepared for what’s coming. GPT-4 is not peak AI. It’s just the very beginning.

3) 7 AI Business Ideas To Get You Thinking

In this week’s episode of The Next Wave, Matt Wolfe and I spoke with my old friend Siqi Chen. We had a ton of fun sharing AI business ideas we’d like to start or invest in. Let me know what you think about this episode, we’re thinking of making it a monthly segment!

It would also help if you subscribe to The Next Wave on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. That’d make HubSpot and me very happy.

4) AI Simulations Have Arrived - In Minecraft

I stumbled across “Project Sid” on X, and it’s such an excellent idea.

They’re using Minecraft as a simulator, using AI to have agents collaborate. It’s basically a massive Minecraft world with AI-powered characters just living their digital life and doing what they want.

I think this kind of tech is the future of open-world games. But I also wonder how close we are to using AI-powered simulations to map out real-world scenarios and help us solve problems we’d never be able to solve without them.

I could imagine simulations eventually being used for everything from pandemic planning to exploring issues we face today, such as social cohesion, changes in the weather, avoiding wars and more.

5) Personal Announcements

That’s all for today. Please consider sharing the newsletter with your friends if you think they’d enjoy it. 🙏

Please give me feedback on Twitter. I am still figuring out the best format for this newsletter. Which part did you like? Dislike? Do you have other suggestions? Please let me know—just tweet @NathanLands.
