Lore #59: AI Video Levels Up With Pika

Good morning.

This week, AI video had its ChatGPT moment with the release of Pika 1.0, which announced $35M in funding from Lightspeed Ventures and others. I believe it’s a huge step forward for AI video. Check out the demo video below. It’s incredibly impressive.

Make sure you join the waitlist.

Excited to see where Pika goes next.

P.S. After the insane drama at OpenAI last week, I went back on WION TV to talk about it and what it means for the future of AI development. Check out the video!

Over the weekend, the United States, Britain, and over a dozen other countries signed a groundbreaking international agreement to ensure AI systems are “secure by design.”

This 20-page document, while non-binding, sets general recommendations for AI system design, emphasizing the need for security measures to prevent misuse, data tampering, and abuse. But it doesn't address the appropriate uses of AI or data collection methods.

Europe has the most restrictive AI regulations at this stage, with several countries establishing guidelines for AI's ethical use and management.

The United States has expressed significant security concerns over the ties between G42, an AI firm based in the United Arab Emirates, and Chinese companies labeled as security threats, particularly Huawei.

American intelligence agencies such as the CIA have warned of the risks involved, including the potential siphoning of advanced American technology to China and the acquisition of genetic data of millions of Americans by the Chinese government.

In response, the Biden administration has strongly urged G42 to sever its connections with these Chinese firms, even hinting at possible sanctions.

The US military is increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into its operations, including piloting small surveillance drones in special ops missions and aiding Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

AI technologies are also being used to monitor soldiers' fitness, predict maintenance needs for Air Force planes, and track activities in space.

Aiming to compete with China, the Pentagon plans to deploy thousands of AI-enabled autonomous vehicles by 2026 under the initiative "Replicator." This program, as outlined by Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, is designed to advance US military innovation with a focus on small, smart, and cost-effective platforms.
