1) Things Are Getting Better

2) AI Is Changing YouTube Forever

In a recent episode of Lex Fridman’s podcast—one that regularly garners 1.2M to 2.2M listens per episode—he interviewed a Spanish-speaking guest, Javier Milei. While a human translator facilitated the live conversation, the real magic happened afterward: AI technology from Eleven Labs dubbed Javier’s voice into English, making it sound as though he spoke fluently in both languages.

Listening to the interview was incredible. If I’d had to read subtitles—or if it was a low-quality dub—I probably wouldn’t have tuned in. But this was so good. It even matched the intonations and nuances of his voice.

And now, YouTube is rolling out AI-powered dubbing for creators everywhere. Soon, being able to consume content in any language you prefer will become the norm.

This isn’t just a cool feature—it’s a massive shift. Media is becoming truly global, and language barriers that once limited reach and collaboration are dissolving.

Meanwhile, as traditional outlets like CNN and Fox News see their viewership decline, podcasters and YouTubers are gaining the tools to reach global audiences. What once required massive teams stationed around the world is now achievable with a few AI-powered tools.

It’s hard to overstate how transformative this is.

For Lex, this technology not only unlocks the ability to interview guests he might never have considered before but also extends his reach to entirely new audiences around the world.

As AI dubbing and translation becomes more mainstream, what does it mean for your work, your audience, or your creative projects? The opportunities are endless. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a creator.

Personally, I’m already thinking about how to leverage things like Eleven Labs for The Next Wave and my new YouTube channel to connect with a global audience.

3) Ranking 22 Of The Most Popular AI Tools

In this week’s episode of The Next Wave, we ranked 22 of the most popular AI tools on a grade from S to F.

This is a new format for us, one that’s obviously popular on YouTube. Let me know what you think!

Also, please subscribe to The Next Wave on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.

4) Things I’m Learning From

  • VIDEO: AI News: AI Takes Control in January! - A thorough breakdown of all the latest AI news from my friend Matt Wolfe. He also has some interesting predictions for where AI is heading early next year.

  • VIDEO: Gwern - The Anonymous Writer Who Predicted The Path to AI - Excellent interview on the Dwarkesh Podcast with Gwern, a well known pseudonymous researcher and writer. This is the first time I’ve seen someone who is pseudonymous go on a podcast using an AI avatar.

  • PAPER: Generative Agent Simulations of 1,000 People - Super interesting paper where they copied the traits of 1,000 people and let them roam wild in an AI-powered game environment. Feels like we’re going to learn some very interesting things about human behavior from AI models in the future.

BONUS: Suno V4 is now live!

Last week, I talked about the upcoming new version of Suno and how it’s set to redefine AI music creation. Well, the wait is over—Suno V4 is live!

In just seconds, you can create jaw-dropping AI-generated music that feels like magic. It’s so much fun.

That’s all for today. Please consider sharing the newsletter with your friends if you think they’d enjoy it. 🙏

Please give me feedback on Twitter. I am still figuring out the best format for this newsletter. Which part did you like? Dislike? Do you have other suggestions? Please let me know—just tweet @NathanLands.
