Lore #64: 2024 Predictions for AI
Good morning.
It’s been a relatively slow week, with everyone celebrating the holidays. I’ve been taking some time to reflect on the whirlwind of 2023 and thinking forward to 2024.
I created a short Twitter thread where people shared their predictions.
Okay, 2024 prediction thread for AI.
Leave your predictions below!
I'll check this tweet next year to see who had the best predictions. :)

Here are a few of my predictions:
GPT-5 will come out by June. It will be a huge leap forward. Debates will begin about whether it's AGI or not.
We will see the first successful AI film.
Calls for AI regulation will get intense due to 2024 election deepfakes + fear over GPT-6.
Wishing you all an excellent 2024. Thank you for your continued support!

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, in his annual year-end report, cautioned against the hasty adoption of AI in legal decisions. Emphasizing a need for careful and humble use of AI, he acknowledged its potential to improve access to legal information while warning of privacy concerns and the risk of dehumanizing law.
The report comes ahead of a contentious election year, with the Supreme Court set to address several politically sensitive cases, including those involving former President Donald Trump.
More than a third of state agencies are using AI. Texas is beginning to examine its potential impact
Texas is examining the impact of AI in state agencies, with over a third already using the technology. The state's AI advisory council, established by House Bill 2060, will assess AI usage and consider ethical concerns like bias and privacy.
Examples of AI use include the Texas Workforce Commission's chatbot for unemployment benefits and other agencies employing AI for tasks like language translation and cybersecurity.
The creation of AI chatbots replicating real people, like psychologist Martin Seligman and therapist Esther Perel, highlights a new ethical and legal challenge. Often developed without consent, these AI replicas use large language models to mimic personalities.
The US is considering the NO FAKES Act to regulate unauthorized digital replicas, but global reach and jurisdictional limits pose challenges. Seligman's case is particularly notable, as his AI replica was created in China for mental health support, raising concerns about surveillance and data privacy. This situation underscores the need for updated laws to address AI's rapid advancements and ethical implications.

A hot debate on the complex relationship of training data to output
In the New York Times OpenAI lawsuit, you can see how complex the relationship of training data to output can be. On one hand, they find that you can induce ChatGPT to produce exact content from famous Times articles, on the other, they show it also hallucinates false articles.
